Project opens with a prayer and you can feel the sincerity in the words being said, gives me vibes of Oxlade's Grandma outro on the Oxygen EP. The Muslim recitation is also a good feel. I like!
God body: The irony in tell me who you think i sound like “everybody” is quite loud. Fam nobody thinks u sound like everybody, if anything I've always had a problem with Laycon's vocal texture when rapping. But that's that let's go further into the song...i like when he goes God body, God flows, got those, God smile cause God kinda got jokes..made me laugh..that was cunning (cunny) sir.
Score card: Would give it a 7 but I'm under external pressure to give it 8/10
Verified ft Mayorkun: Mayorkun vocals accompanying laycon's makes the beginning of the song pleasing to the ear. Mayor has got the melody, Laycon the lyrics. I wish laycon would use more of the local lingua sha. I know he does try to fix in pidgin but God knows I'd love to hear a lot more yoruba. Decent track don't see it getting better than this so..
Score card 7/10
All over me: love the pre chorus, hate the hook. Verses are decent too. Beat is dancey
Score card 7/10
Wagwan: lol my friend doesn't like this song, but i like it, it's close to home enough. It isn't laycon speaking plenty English, it's laycon doing what i said i wished he'd do more on track 2.
Score card 7/10
Kele ft Joeboy: sorry Joeboy fans but una boyfriend fuck up for here o, na him start na him still dull the mood, them no see another song select? Or na this one sweet pass? Then laycon added icing to the bad cake, my baby fine pass yours, she get chest pass yours..lol kileleyi na..bobo yi a dẹ sope oun na fẹ́ win Grammy lọla
Score card 6/10
Jeje ft Terri: Now this is a better song than the previous one, Terri and Laycon seem to have easily found that middle ground and the right instrumental that enables both talents to shine. Terri mesmerises with the hook and laycon dishes bars in a commercial rap manner but yet the lyrics still manage to be quite deep and very meaningful. I'm actually impressed with this joint.
Score card 8/10
Bam Bam: Be honest u sef like this song? No lie o
Score card 6/10
Want you back ft Teni: i no go surprise if na Pheelz produce this song sha, i like the communication between Teni and Laycon on this song, it's a back and forth, talk and reply composition I haven't seen in a while, and my last memory of a song like this is from a foreign song. Ermm, Laycon singing I don't want you back isn't really spectacular but I'll take it, anyways he makes up for it with the following verse. This song definitely is one I'll be coming back to. Na Jaysynth produce the song though
Score card 8/10
Fall for me ft YKB: We already know this is a bop na. If you haven't seen the video you should go see it, very beautiful.
Score card 8/10
My lane: This one is a song for Laycon haters, u people should line up and collect your subs, remember to say thank you sir. Oh btw peep where Rihanna umbrella melody is sampled
Score card 7/10
And so they spoke: This one be like Gospel song, just like God body. Me no like Gospel song o, i don press quit.
Conclusion
I think this is a decent effort from Laycon, in a way he exceeds my expectations or maybe it's because i didn't come listening with too high an expectation. Shall we begin is honestly not the worst project out there, hell it's not even in that category, cos if we are talking terrible trust me I've heard worse. This is a valiant attempt and laycon can only get better as it goes.
Final score 7.2/10
Damn, man, I like the way you write (not your handwriting though), beautiful and relatable just like your music.
